Originally written for the opening act of Love & Light Foundation's DVD "The Secret Meets Aruba," this piece aims to address the questions and concerns raised after the spiritual phenomenon of "The Secret" has been revealed. I have had the pleasure of performing this act in various longer variations in Aruba and Curaçao since 2007. In this shorter version, I am accompanied by gifted artist Crisèn Schorea from Curaçao.
Inspired by the World Theater Day Message of 2006, this poem expresses Theater's urge for the public to "dicidi" (decide) its' fate once and for all: "Boso kier pa mi ta arte of boso kier pa mi ta cobarde?" (Do you want me to be art or do you want me to be a coward?). By breaking the frame that society so carefully dressed art into, theater takes its destiny back with a sword, inviting the public to let art lead with the truth: "Mi kier pa boso realisa mi poder, teatro mi ta y arte mi ta y ta keda produci, ami a dicidi!" (I want everyone to realize my power, I am theater and art is and will always be my production, I have decided!).
Many thanks to Wilfred Jansen, Indzee Hernandis, Eribert "Beach" Delamare, Aline Hibbert and Mo Mohamed.
I originally wrote this poem for the symposium of The University of Aruba in 2007. After this presentation, I was asked to perform "The Ladies" at various events including the International day of Poetry, twice on The International day of Human Rights and at Quota International Women's Club of Aruba's award evening where they recognized young outstanding women of Aruba. Below is a video of this presentation, held at the introduction of my second book of poetry entitled "Spiel di mi Alma."
This piece is a combination of two poems, one in Papiamento and one in English. "Palabra Bunita" (beautiful word) features in my second book while "Bow" is planned to be included in my upcoming book.
Written for the National Anthem and Flag day of Aruba, this poem addresses the heart and history of the Aruban culture. "Compronde mi Rubiano" (Understand me Aruban) calls out to all the citizens of the island to implement the wisdom we were born from and utilize the pure water and divine sand we live by.
